/Arbeiten/uploaded/256SKI-Image.jpgIntelligent network elements (with Cognitive radio capability) are required to efficiently utilize the radio access networks to meet the upcoming demand of high data rates. 80% of the radio access happens indoor, however, encounters less or even no coverage due to high building penetration loss. This problem is solved with relay nodes (aka home eNodeB in the LTE standard). The backhauling to relay nodes occurs over a wireless link utilizing white space spectrum (secondary usage).



The task is to realize a frequency translation from a white space spectrum (TV white space or GSM band) to LTE spectrum. The whole concept is implemented with USRPs, facilitating a cognitive radio concept with software programmable hardware.
